Background
- AD 43, Rome conquered Britain.
- 400’s, remained a Roman province until Western Rome collapsed. Britain then fell to German tribes Angles and Saxons. King Arthur legend tries to tell some of this, but in the end, Anglo-Saxons settled Angle-Land, or England.
- British Church fled to Ireland, where Saint Patrick converted many Irish.
- when Vikings came, Danes and Norseman maneuvered for power with Anglo-Saxons. When Edward took power, Normans protected him, but when he died, English nobles crowned their own Anglo-Saxon King.
- 1066, Duke William of Normandy then invaded and defeated the English at the Battle of Hastings. He seized Saxon land, and put England on the Feudal system. William the Conqueror became sole ruler, and Britain has not been successfully invaded since.
- 1215, Magna Carta, influential to later common and constitutional law, was signed.
- Scots would fight for independence from England
- legend of Robin Hood emerged.
- Mongols ruled most of Eurasia, and information spread west.
